Library cards are available free of charge to all Wisconsin residents. Children under the age of 16 must have a parent/legal guardian signature. Identification is required. Materials cannot be checked out until a MORE library card has been issued.
Books from the library can be checked out for 3 weeks and can be renewed 2 times for a total of 9 weeks if not on hold.
Movies (popular adult and children VHS and DVDs) can be checked out for 1 week with 2 renewals for a total of 3 weeks if not on hold.
Non-fiction Movies and Audio-books (tape or CD) can be checked out for 3 weeks and renewed 2 times for a total of 9 weeks if not on hold.
NOTE: renewals are not possible if an item is on hold.
Items from other libraries have their own loan periods and fine structure.
All items are free to check out, however the library charges $1.00/day for movies (DVD or VHS). Books, audio-books and magazines are charged at 10 cents/day.
Lost or damaged items:
When an item is lost or damaged, the patron will have to pay the full retail price. The librarian will decide if the item will be replaced. The retail price that is designated in the catalog will be used. This price includes processing charges. If the item is found within 30 days, and it is returned to the librarian in good condition…the price paid for the lost item will be refunded. If the item is from another MORE library, their lost and damage rules apply. Checks made out to the appropriate MORE library for the price of the item + any processing costs & must be sent to that MORE library before the item will be cleared.
Computer access is available in 30 minute sessions. As long as there is no one waiting, the time can be extended until someone else requests time. The first 5 copies printed are free, additional copies may be printed at a charge of $.10 for black & white.
Staff can make copies at a charge of $.10 per page for black & white. Color copies are $1.00/page
Besides a wide variety of books in fiction and nonfiction for adults, teens, and children, the C. H. Johnson Public Library also has an array of movies on VHS and DVD. We offer a collection of audio books on CD or tape. Along with that, we also have 30+ magazine and newspaper titles for in-library and at home enjoyment. Joining MORE shared computer has enabled patrons to access over 1.5 million titles which can be delivered to Sand Creek for check out.
Story times and Programming:
The library provides preschool-aged walk-in story time, summer reading, and seasonal story times. For more information on dates and themes take a look at our calendar. Other special programs are available throughout the year. For example, the “Crafty Divas” meet on the second Saturday of the month; local crafters get together to do their handwork and share stories and a cup of tea.
